Few months back French President Emmanuel Macron said, "Islam is a religion which is experiencing a crisis today, all over the world”, and there was a need to “free Islam in France from foreign influences”.
After that, French Government passed a bill on which critics and sources are saying that this bill is against Islam and its particularly targeting around 5 Million Muslims in France.
As per the latest resources, French MP's have successfully voted in favour of this bill and the bill is ready to be passed from French Upper House.
So what's this bill has ? What does this bill say..
Point 1 - Action on Hate Speech and Separatism
According to this point, A new offence for online hate speech will make it possible to quickly detain a person who spreads personal information about public sector employees on social media with the intent to harm them, and will be punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 Euros. Also apart from this anyone found threatening, violating or intimidating an elected official or public sector employee will also face up to five years imprisonment and a fine of 75,000 Euros and blocking or delisting of websites promoting hate speech will also be made easier.
Point 2 - Control on Organisations, Homeshooling and Sport
Any organisation in France that receives public funding will have to sign a “republican contract of engagement” which, if breached, funding can be revoked. Secondly, all homeschooling will need to be authorised by the state rather than be self-declared, starting from the 2024 or 2025 school year.
Point 3 - Forced Marriage, Polygamy and Virginity Certificate
According to this point, Medical Experts, Doctors and Consultants will be fined 15,000 Euros and face a prison sentence of up to one year for providing fake virginity certificates. Also strict actions will be taken against suspected forced marriage. Lastly, if any person found to have more than one spouse, then French Citizenship will be revoked of that citizen.
Point 4 - Funding from Foreign for Religious Organisations
If any worshipping place like Temple, Church or Mosque found in propagating hate speech or agenda, that place will be immediately shut down and the foreign funding will also be revoked.
Point 5 - Ban on wearing Hijab
One of the most controversial point. Accorsing to this, this point prohibits civil servants from wearing religious symbols like the hijab and voicing political views, beyond public sector employees to all private contractors of public services such as those working for transport companies.
